I Believe In Saint Cyril School

Class Of 1975 I went to Saint Cyrils in the Sixties and Seventies. Growing up in the Stonehurst section of Upper Darby, Our parish was St.Carthages on cobbs creek parkway. In the early 60's, St Cyril took over as our new parish. I have both fond and not so fond memories of St. Cyrils, such as Sister Herman Joseph, and Dirk Slater. Anyway, one of the things I did learn was disipline, like you can see that in my blog posts. All in all our School was the best. I remember the May Procession, Father O'Donnell, Mr. Doyle, Miss Hess, Sister Adrian, Mother Superior,The Social Hall, etc, etc. I loved and still love my old school. Now, Saint Cyril of Alexandria is slated to close unless the school comes up with a quarter of a million dollars by March 31st. How I found Out About This How I found out about this was through the Daily Times a few weeks ago. Also, Paul Thomas, owner of Thomas's Cafe, has taken great steps to help out. The young man who started this whole thing is Tommy Geromichalos. Quote about him from St.Cyril's web site below. "Inspired by 12 year old Tommy Geromichalos, and aided by a series of articles in the Delaware County Daily Times, the parish held a meeting Wednesday night, January 25th to start an effort to raise the $200,000 needed by March 31, 2006. Tommy has Cystic Fibrosis and wrote a letter to the Make-A Wish Foundation" So I was thinking at this late hour how to help. Call Oprah? Send out e-mails? Ask Congress to intervene? How about Curt Weldon? All these things would not help. What would help at this point is nothing short of a miracle. And Tommy is asking for one. I think he deserves it... P.S. I believe that if every person who ever went to Saint Cyrils donated five dollars they could easily reach their goal. Do the math. 1000 students per year X 50 years (1955 -2005) X 5 = 250,000. Now I may be wrong about the total number of students to have ever attended St Cyrils, but I failed to mention that I also learned how to dream. Cheers.

Out. Of. Control.

Some will see this as a sticky situation. Some will see it as an abvious insult. Some will see it as an obvious over-reaction. I belive in free speach. I believe newspapers can print what they want and people in return have the right to not buy it. I believe the FCC shouldn't be so tough on radio jocks like Stern since people have a choice. People can turn it off. Why are there people out in this world who don't understand that? Everything should be filtered and filtered and held to some standard? Hey people, don't like it? Turn. It. Off. Think some music is offensive? Don't freaking buy it! Don't let your kid buy it! Think some tv show is offensive? Don't freaking watch it! Don't like a radio show? Turn the freaking dial! This whole cartoon thing. I get it that a certain population is all pissed off at this representation of whom they believe as a prophet. But where do they get off? Jokes, caricatures, etc, is never shoved down the face of catholics? buddhists? jews? I'm not talking just about the type of people I'm talking about the idols they worship. We all know of the many many many jewish jokes that don't have to do with that which they hold as higher powers but there in fact ones that do poke fun at such an idol. What I love most is this perception that its a government's fault. This idea that governments should be controlling newspapers and ensuring what they print will not offend anyone in the world at all. This is what happens when a religion becomes a political system. Yeah burn the Danish flag because a newspaper printed a story. Yeah that makes sense. Its so hypocritical. Iran is out there bashing everyone through their government run papers and advertisements. Not just the US but everyone. The people, the political system, the religions...everyone. But now the shoe is on the other foot and there's nothing but outrage? Kudos to all of the other newspapers in the many other nations that ran the same cartoon. Jeers to the US for condeming the cartoon (Jee that's not some obvious plow to get a certain population on your good side? Come on be creative at least). Oh and I really loved it when papers ran the offensive cartoon just to 'show the people the offensive cartoon'. Yyyyeeaaahhh. That's why you did it. Ssssuuurree. Not reaching trying to get the alrighty buck there are ya? No not at all.

Talk Is Cheap In America

I listened to Mr.Bush's "State of the Union Address", and quite frankly, I thought it to be a bunch of bullshit. Same old same old, just like Clinton, Bush Sr, RayGun, etc. Ever watch the Grammy's? Lets's pat each other on the back and tell the world that we have found pots of gold over the rainbow. (In reality, the pots of gold are for them, not you and I.) I am now growing angry about all politicial parties involved. Dems, Pubs, even Independant's all try to tout "Were for you and AMERICA", but, in reality, they are for themselves and their GREED. Wake up, and really care about your fellow American and the world.

Phila.'s unlikely energy source

Venezuela's socialist president, Hugo Chavez, who has been a persistent antagonist to President Bush, is providing relief to some poor families in the Philadelphia region squeezed by the high price of home-heating oil. A subsidiary of the Venezuelan national oil company will ship five million gallons of heating oil for distribution at a steep discount to as many as 25,000 low-income families in the Philadelphia region next month under a deal brokered by U.S. Rep. Chaka Fattah (D., Pa.) and a nonprofit energy cooperative. So this is obviously a political move by Mr. Chavez there. Do I care? Do the people who are getting this discount care? No. Who the hell cares on the motivation of it I'm just glad its happening. But who's it really helping? I would say its not helping the poor its helping the oil companies from trying to get paid for their overpriced commodity. The outcry from the public over a company proposing to stop oil service to low income families due to mounting bills would be ridiculous. How do you stop this potentially politically horrible issue? Why work the angles to make it look like your getting a break. What a better way to play the 'we're helping the poor out' angle for an oil company than by working with someone who hates the current administration with assistance by a democrat. The bottom line is the poor will continue to get home heating oil. Just keep in mind why this is happening.

I was tipped off about this story that happened in Dallas,Texas recently. It involved a member of Assassination City,(A local Roller Derby team), 25 year old Michelle Metzinger. The officer,15 year veteran Ceaphus Gordon, has numerous internal affairs investigations under his belt for police abuse. I have obtained these pictures. Judge for yourself. Hands on the car! Get back or your next! Did that hurt? I told you to stay down bitch! Does this look like she's resisting arrest? For skating accross the street? Blood all over the place..

Promotion, Propoganda or Cult-like Beliefs?

(gets on soap box) I have a problem. Its an issue I don't understand. Its also something I can't 100% identify with but at some level can. Breastfeeding. No not those who tend to not care about the environment in which they do it, though some tend to believe there is never a 'wrong-place' for such an action, but those who promote it. Acutally no, not those who promote it, those who are freaking Nazi's about it. There are basically two options to such crazy people, breastfeeding or bottle feeding. To such people bottle feeding is the devil, an instrument of satan himself. Now while I don't and never will doubt the pros of breastfeeding there are many cons to the way it is promoted. Again, yes, many many pros of breastfeeding. What I don't understand is the emphasis on the actual act of breastfeeding and not the emphasis on the breast milk itself. To me they're kind of missing the boat. Talk with these 'people with blinders on' and you hear all about the greatness of the milk but never much about pumping and storage and all that. They don't make that connection. The train is...milk is good, so breastfeed. Even trains have the ability to switch tracks. So persistant is the propoganda that its hurtful. Mentally or emotionally uncomfortable with breastfeeding? Well your just a bad mother. Calm down there with your Tom Cruise like crazyness. Some people just are uncomfortable with it. Some people just can't handle it or just can't do it. There is nothing wrong with these mothers besides being human. Again (yes, tons of disclaimers to avoid nasty annoying people who don't understand my point because they're blind to anything beyond breastfeeding) I do agree there are many pros to breastfeeding, not just utilization of the milk produced, and believe if you can do it and are comfortable doing it its the best option. My point is, the crazy people act like its the only option a real mother would choose. All they accomplish is lowering the self esteem of expectant mothers who have a problem with it. What about the new mothers who really believe in it and really want to do it but for some meta-physical reason can't? Can't produce enough milk? Oh yeah well your a bad mother because you can't breastfeed. Child having problems latching on? Your a bad mother and are doing it wrong. Sure they don't say this outright but that scenario never plays in their minds. Breastfeeding or hell is the stance they project. Good strategy. Women go through all these crazy changes phsyically, mentally, emotionally, chemically. 9 months of all this stuff going on, all of it culminating in a couple of hours (if your lucky). Your stance? Breastfeed or go home. Gee, good support system. Good looking out for the health of ALL involved. So thank you to all those nazi breastfeeding propoganda-ites. Thanks for making my wife feel like a bad mother-to-be. Yes we both know of many people who have bottle fed (with breast milk and/or formula) with success and have raised wonderful human beings...but talking to you people you wouldn't think they existed. (gets off soap box)

Why Consumers Need X Ray Vision

Today my wife was preparing some Chicken & Canned Potatos that I purchaced from our local Giant Supermarket. Imagine the look on her face when she found Kidney Beans in the can. At least it wasn't a dead rat, like I remember GINO's rumoured to have had cooked in place of their chicken back in the 70's.
