Dirty Tricks

Stolen Campaign Lawnsigns 10-11-06 Upper Darby Township Casey R. Roncaglione Democratic Candidate 164th District After a high speed chase through the streets of Upper Darby, going down one way streets and almost hitting pedestrians, a city License and Inspection official was stopped by over 10 Upper Darby Police. The Township official was attempting to avoid being caught by one of my campaign workers who spotted the official stealing my campaign lawn signs. In his trunk were found my political lawn signs, illegally taken from legal Township locations. The signs were taken from private property, whose owners had given permission to me to post the signs. Lawnsigns were also stolen from Roncaglione's home as well as his neighbors and supporters. The candidate, Casey R. Roncaglione, Democratic candidate in Upper Darby Township, called the actions typical dirty tricks. "I doubt my opponent Mario Civera (R-164) had anything to do with it, but I don't know that for sure," said Roncaglione. "It's not the end of the world but it is pretty cheap politics, Mr. Civera has over $190,000 in campaign funds, I have a little over $4,000. He could buy 50,000 signs and not even feel it, I have to watch every penny, so a sign is an important expense to me." Upper Darby Police are filing a report and superintendent Chitwood promised there would be an investigation possibly leading to charges.. Upper Darby Township, a Republican stronghold has never been too acceptable of competition. Mr. Roncaglione is different though, actually friendly and respective of Mr. Civera. "Roncaglione spoke to Mr. Civera earlier on the day of the incident to complain that his signs were being taken down. Mr. Civera told Mr. Roncaglione that he doesn't do that and the two parted amicably. Soon after the episode occurred. Mr. Roncaglione who has pledged a clean campaign hopes this puts an end to the dirty tricks and that the voters get an honest and fair chance to learn the issues to vote for whom they feel can best represent them.

  2. This is a sad commentary on American politics, and it's become a regular event on both sides of the fence in almost every election. Anyone who steals or defaces a yard sign like that should have their right to vote permanently revoked.

  3. Its typical "War Board" politics for sure!Ive seen this for decades. So who is this thief and why did I not read about it in the Daily Times? What's his name? I am glad to know about this blog! Good luck young lad ,I will vote for you , I have lived in Upper Darby Township now for 50 plus years.

  4. My rights to show support for any candidate I want to should not be messed with. Shame om our Township employees, Mr.Judge, for dirty tricks. Let the election alone and let me decide who to support.
    You have embarassed us all.

  5. You must be desperate Mario, are you scared this young man is making people listen. So your answer is to send out you're goons to silence him. Not gonna work, better get ready to open the barber shop in November,

  6. Forwarded to the DelcoTimes and posted on PhillyFuture. People, this is how it gets done in Delco, when are we going to start doing something about it?

  7. i see lot's of Mario signs. Bet half won't vote for him. I've got one on my lawn, his office keeps any contacts with people who call when they have questions or need some state welfare. Then they call that person during election years and remind them and suggest strongly to put up a sign, which is technically imoral.
Got my sign but you're not getting my vote.

  8. City workers in UD routinely do politucal bidding on their jobs. On election day they man polls and give rides to voters in city cars.
Why do you think they've controlled the Township for so long and not one democrat holds any office.

  9. I think it's sick that a city wotker that I pay his check with my taxes is used to hurt any political candidate. Clean the streets, fix the potholes, do your job. Stay out of politics, I hope you're fined and reprimanded.

  10. You need 2 signs to fit your name.

  11. I do the same thing... Register R,then tell all the pollsters I'm voting R, Those Township,County and State Employees couldn't last a day in the actual working world. So sad that "adults" are so indebted to the powers that be for their livelihood.

  12. As a lifelong Independent this Township official's actions make me sick. If Mr. Chitwood is the crimebuster he claims to be, then treat white collar crime the same as drug crime. (You're doing a great job by the way). I am so mad that our employees are out doing political work instead of the jobs they're supposed to be doing. I'll be watching Mr. Chitwood, don't let us down. You don't seem to be a man intimidated by politicians, prove it to us.

  13. The Daily Times was notified of this crime but chose to not publish it. Boycott the times and send letters to their clients explaining why.

  14. The signs on a person's lawn don't mean shit for me. They won't sway my vote one way or another - never have and never will. I highly believe it won't sway others either.

I'm voting the same way I've voted for years and years: Republican.

  15. Very classy post... Using profanity only proves you don't have much of a vocabulary... Stay on the R side, and keep being swayed by fear.

  16. I have not heard one peep from the local news concerning this. I think it is bogus, no cops in UD that I am freinds with know anything about it!

    MORE DEMOCRAT BULLSHIT???

  18. kateykakes. Too many people don't vote, I'm glad you do and that you make up your own mind. R or D, me or Mario, it only matters tnat you vote. There should be more like you. I'd love to convince you to vote for me, but that sounds like it might be tough. Vote for whomever, it's our duty and too ,and people take it for granted.

You'd have to put up a hell of a convincing argument, Casey. ;)

My email is on my profile. Feel free to try to change my mind.

  22. Sorry,But can't help noticing the profanity from the Republican stalwarts... It's just a simple case of the neighborhood bully finally getting caught up with. A barrage of obscenities, then he finally turns away...

  23. Seems the Republ-turds are self destructing! Wah aha hah aha! Weldon's daughter Karen homes and business were raided by the F.B.I.!! MARIO CIVERA is next and Casey will prevail! Republican values are a bunch of bs and you republicans who vote straight republican are a joke!

  24. Our signs are still dissapearing at an alarming rate. I have created a downloadable sign on my wesite. www.caseyroncaglione.com
It's on the right side of the page, print some and give some to your friends. Thanks,
    Casey

  25. I think Weldon took your signs.

  26. Nothing of this in the Daily Times?
    Why?
Who are they protecting? I think I'll start buying the News Of Delaware County.

  27. Hey Mario, you're done. Your paid staff came by my house to give me your propagada. What a bunch of crap, anyone with a brain would use it to line their birdcage. They also gave me a sign for my lawn. I put it on EBAY. Latest bid was to have me pay them to take it.
Hope you and Weldon get adjoining cells.

  28. Looks like we win again. You can forget about any charges here. One less sign of yours makes the hundreds of ours stand out double.
You think our judges would give you a hearing? Forget about it, we rule and always will.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Perhaps no charges have been filed because you cannot prove you had permission from the owner of the property to place the sign on the property from which it was removed.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Charges will be filed. I guarantee it.
How did the Township official know if I did or didn't as he took the sign down? Do you really beleive he goes to every place a sign is posted and asks the owner if the sign was put up with permission? And why did he run away instead of just telling our worker to take the sign down, because he knew he was wrong and didn't want to get caught. And shouldn't they be doing the work you pay him for with your taxes instead of denying anyone of free speech, to say nothing of going around taking other people's property. I had permission and the judge will see it.

  31. First - A sign is not going to sway a vote. People on my street have had both Democrat and Republican signs removed. We were actually amused that some woke up with the opposite signs that they went to bed with! The morale of the story is people are going to vote for the person they want - period. Personally, this is one of the reasons I can not stand this time of year. If it's not political signs littering the streets it's negative TV commericials.

Secondly, Upper Darby is a Township, not a City. We have no "city" officials.

Third and last. I may be a Republican but I do agree that removing the signs was wrong. Remember people your parties affiliation does not mean squat except in the primary. I always use the analogy that no one is liberal or conservative. Some things I'm liberal about and some things I'm conservative about.

Anyway, I wish you luck Mr. Roncaglione. I think you have some good ideas but your age concerns me. While you appear to be very mature your lack of "life experience" if you will, is the biggest downfall I see. I do believe with a little time and patience you may have an aspiring political career in the future.

  32. This used to be a nice blog to visit. Now its over run with liberal democrats who whine about signs being stolen. I think that the blog admininistrator should ban anymore political posting and should return this place to what it once was! A place for people to post about DELAWARE COUNTY !

  33. Go start your own blog, no one will read it, but it will give you something to do.
    Vote Civera

  34. Fair enough to the poster who said a sign won't sway votes. You should make up your own mind, not be convinced by some negative ad or sign.
I agree signs are generally an eyesore in the Township. I'll have mine gone the week after the election. Then again I didn't have that much money to buy too many so it'll be easy.
Your concern with my "life experience" is valid, but even at this age I never would have taken the pay raise that Mario did, and then said "we all enjoyed the greed of it."

  35. Lt. George Rhoades reported to the Casey Roncaglione Committee that his investigation into the lawn sign incident was completed today. Lt. Rhoades delivered the criminal report to Assistant District Attorney Jackson M. Stewart Jr. (610-891-4240) at the D A's office in Media.
Mr. Stewart reported that his investigation will begin today and be concluded within 3 weeks. At that time he will release his decision and if deemed press any charges.
For his part Casey Roncaglione will go on with his campaign. Knocking on doors, meeting the voters and concentrating on election day rather than political Township workers.

  37. Good For you, concentrate on the important stuff.
We all know most people are "forced" to put up his stupid signs. Like that other guy said, no sign ever made my mind up.
By the way He's been in long enough, I'm looking forward to shocking the state and voting for you. Beat him as badly as he's treated us.

  38. I thought I would chime in on this. If this is true, then Mike Chitwood should have held a Press Conference about it. I see him all the time in the news media, busting crimminals and informing us that he is on the job.

    Cheers.

P.S. Happy Birthday Casey, I couldn't make your party at Maggie O'Neills..

  39. We missed you, but there will be others. Chitwood was a big help, put his top guy on it, Lt. George Rhoades. Lt. Rhoades called me on Friday and told me he finished the investigation and brought the case to the DA's office in Media. The DA called me and said the investigation of possible charges would take a few weeks.
I'm leaving in their hands and going to work even harder every day to win this race.
    Thanks as always,
    Casey

  41. Read the News of Delaware County today. They admit the signs were taken from private property. Then the excuses were such bull that a 2 year old could read between the lines, caught red handed.
I'd be embarrased to be Mario Civera today that his pals have to reach so low and be so desperate to win an election. All of Upper Darby should realize the sad day this is and how bad it makes us look.
