Social Media Timeline

Well I do. And it seems that because of the explosion of "Social Media" sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest, the blogs like this one have pretty much gone by the wayside. I started this blog a few years after I hosted and ran a website called Totally Delco around 2003. The website, for all it was worth, was just a bunch of links to local businesses, and some local government links.

I soon started posting to and linking on my site on Live Journal with a Blog called "Living In Delco", to complement it. Bring alcohol and politics into the picture, and trouble soon began. I remember having whole threads deleted by someone who hacked into my admin account. And having my whole website shut down because of some asshole troll who went by the name of "Michael Crook" sending myself and my web host a DMCA notice that I was using his picture without his permission (He lost and got made an ass out of himself).

There was the interview with Alex Rose, of the Delaware County Daily Times, about my website, myself explaining to him that I started it because I couldn't find as furniture store locally to buy a mattress.Now in 2019, this blog and my website are hard to find on Google. I googled "I Live In Delaware County" and where I used to be number one out of hundreds of thousands, now non existent.

Facebook is the new norm for people my age and  thirty years older and younger, while the really young ones post on Twitter and Snapchat. 

So with all that I'm leaving some links to various blogs and web sites that I had a hand in starting, promoting, and running over the years.

Stopping The Madness

After the most recent horrific school shooting in Florida, it seems that everyone has an answer as what to do to keep something like it from happening again. This columnist, a former resident of Springfield, has the same old answer. More restrictions.

But Her's are what I would consider to be a direct "assault" on our constitutional rights. In the article, Ms Shaffer wants all gun owners to have a "Gun License", to purchase guns, ammo, even accessories. Her reasoning is, if someone buys a large amount of ammunition in a short time, a "red flag" would come up, alerting the authorities. That alone is an invasion of privacy. Imagine getting into your car, and detectors go off, alerting the "authorities" that you have been drinking. Not enough to be legally intoxicated, but enough for a "red flag" to go up.

And all this information was fed into databases, then shared with others. Next thing your insurance company drops you, your health care provider demands you go to an alcohol rehabilitation, and your neighbors find out. I know, seriously far fetched, right?  Well, actually, Ms. Shaffer's ideas are quite in line, only with guns, not booze.

Getting with the Times?

Well well, I see now that the Daily Times is finally doing what I have been doing now since June of 2004. Blogging about Delaware County, what's on my mind, what I think about this area, the Upper Darby School District, etc. On this blog (I had to recently move it here to blogger because they are canceling FTP to my web site and others in May) we have only two contributors at the moment, Paula Brown and my Wife Elizabeth, who's father "Ace" incidentally worked for the Daily Times for forty years, both are MIA. I don't blame either, as Paula and I may beg to differ on Politicial issues, and Liz just isn't really interested at the moment.

along the way, we have had several bloggers as contributors, ranging from Casey Roncagilone, to Don Roberts, and briefly, Peter Porcupine. But in this day of Facebook and twitter, many people seem to go for the shorter posts, not the blathering like I'm doing right now. I will say that I will be blogging much more this year, voicing my opinions about Upper Darby, Clifton Heights, and in general, Eastern Delaware County. If you would like to join here as a contributor, just shoot me an e mail telling me why you want to blog here and what section of Delco you live in. Just think of it this way. your own little venting ground, where at least 5000 people will read your rants and raves each month.

Vote Katie Leonard for Upper Darby School Board

Yes I went through this before. But this time I am really sure of this young woman in her dedication to Upper Darby residents and students, (Morso that I can say about the others who I've taken the time to research,) I am Sure in the fact that she is sincere and really wants to serve both the taxpayers, parents, and students of Upper Darby School District. I first got wind of Katie on My Space, a (Social networking web site for you newbies) and was impressed after reading her profile and visiting her web site - voteforkatie.org. So, as a unabashed favor to Katie, I endorse her for Upper Darby School Board, and hope you will too. Come election day, it will take the average voter in Delaware County once at the polls 15 minutes of their precious life to speak out on what they really really want to change or stay the same in their neighborhood! To be quite honest with you I don't know who is running for the job, other than Katie. That is why I am voting for her. From Her My Space: I am running to serve our school board and would appreciate your support.I have lived nearly my entire life in Drexel Hill and had the privilege of attending Garrettford, Drexel Hill, and Upper Darby before graduating in 2001. Since then, I graduated from the University of Pittsburgh and am now attending Temple Law School and West Chester University, where I am working towards teaching certification in English and social studies.While I take immense pride in the education and opportunities Upper Darby schools presented me with, many people have become increasingly critical of the system. It is for that reason I am seeking your vote this primary season. I get frustrated hearing people make negative generalizations about the very schools I attended not too long ago. Of course our schools have some problems. But every district has its own set of problems. The answer is Read more here... Bottom line is forget that you maybe do not agree with me or like me for that matter.. Do use what our forefathers gave you and give a damn on how both your money is spent and your children are taught in Upper Darby Township! Election Day is November 6, 2007 - Polls open at 8:00 AM! Find time to grow some and feel good afterwards! VOTE! P.S. Penn Delco? Too bad Katie isn't vieing for a spot on your board.. She would clean house with all your corruption!

Clifton Heights Democratic Party

I received a flyer from them today in my door. Not knowing anything about them, other than Katie Leonard, my "My Space" buddy, I found that their web site is rather navigable, as in all links seem to work, etc. My only problem is that on the flyer, it says:

Vote Straight Democrat.

I have never voted a straight party ticket in all of the years I have voted. I research the candidate, weigh their contributions to the community, then see what they have to offer me, the voter. Bob Penjuke is my current committeeman here in Clifton Heights. He took over the post after his wife passed away. As my committeeman, (and neighbor down the street) has addressed every issue that I have brought to him, as did his wife Pat. So to see various Democrats like Kevin Parsons state: " After watching the town go down hill he decided to run for council, and that it is time for a change." statement kind of took me by surprise.

What went downhill? Sure the whole county is being affected by druggies and kids with guns (I blame parents and MTV for it, if not the lax social services) but Clifton Heights as a whole is a decent town, with the Clifton Rams and the PAL and the best Fourth of July fireworks on the east coast as all positives! Here's how someone like myself can be swayed to vote for them. Mary McStravog, running for the fourth ward states:

"Mary is dedicated to improving the quality of life for the children of Clifton Heights by addressing recreational needs, especially for the teenage population lack of services our children are receiving in Special Education by working with Upper Darby School Board. Mary is focused and passionate about meeting the needs of families in Clifton Heights, serving the elderly, single parents, for those that are struggling with various issues."

The key words are "Quality of life for the children". That is what matters to me. See, the way I was brought up (Catholic school where the evil nuns solved your ADHD with a ruler) was that us as kids had fun growing up. We also had responsibilities, in which if we did not keep, were met with an iron fist, not kid gloves and Ritalin. There's more to it than running a campaign where you can find faults in your opponent (Well, maybe I'm wrong, look at rove vs. McCain in 2000), than to really come out and tell it like it is, what you can do to change your area in a positive light.

Memories Of Graduation

Memories Of Graduation I posted this You Tube link on My Space the other day, in the hope of trying to sway my Son to go back to Upper Darby High School. I don't know if he watched it, but he told me today that he wanted to return to Upper Darby High School and get a "real diploma", as both myself, his Mother,Brother, and Sisters have received in the past. Only thing is, I'm sure I will find resistance from the Upper Darby School Board, along with certain teachers and administrators.Well So be it! I have my own "options" to put "on the table". They surely know this, and so does my attorney. My advise? Let sleeping dogs lie. Cheers.

She reminds me of my fellow blogger Casey Roncaglione in that She's young, and more importantly, involved with our local government, more than I can say for most of the people I know, including my self. Read on and consider voting for her tomorrow. I know I am. About me: I am running to serve our school board and would appreciate your support. Some of the goals I suggest we work towards include: retaining our experienced teachers; adapting our classrooms to fit with the changing cultures of our area; acknowledging social conditions and promoting positive behaviors; increasing student involvement and pride in our community; and continuing to make sure that only lawfully enrolled students are attending our schools.
